Experience

Attorney Jeffrey Honig specializes in labor and employment and general municipal law. He counsels municipalities and regional transit authorities on personnel and collective bargaining issues, taxation, licensing, regulation and litigation in state and federal courts and administrative agencies in the Commonwealth. Attorney Honig also assists clients with a full spectrum of general municipal issues, including town meetings, municipal charters and by-laws, conflict of interests, public records, the Open Meeting Law, and municipal finance. Additionally, Attorney Honig is trained in Mutual Gains Bargaining through the Cornell University ILR School extension program.

Prior to joining the firm, Attorney Honig spent six years in the city solicitors office in Pittsfield and two years in Malden. While in Pittsfield, Attorney Honig oversaw and participated in collective bargaining with various unions, including the IUE, IPBO and the IAFF. He also provided legal counsel to the Pittsfield Public Schools and the Berkshire Athenaeum. Attorney Honig’s included advising on the Municipal Airport Expansion Project, the development of the Nash Industrial Site and the Pittsfield Family Resource Center, and the redevelopment of the Pittsfield Fire Station and the England Brother’s Department Store by Berkshire Bank. He also successful secured real property for use by the City in connection with the reconstruction of the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield.

In addition to his experience in the public sector, Attorney Honig worked in the General Counsel’s Office of Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton, was an instructor in Paralegal Studies Program at Mildred-Elley Business School in Pittsfield, and worked as a judicial extern at the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

Representative Matters

  • Assisting municipalities and public agencies in general employment matters, including reviewing personnel policies; conducting employee training; and advising on Family Medical Leave Act, Worker’s Compensation, and Americans with Disabilities Act matters.
  • Defending a public agency against a breach of contract claim, which was brought by a former independent contractor who provided advertising services. This ongoing, complex litigation has involved extensive discovery and motion practice in state court.
