Experience
Attorney Katherine Lord Klein represents cities and towns in all aspects of general municipal law, including town meetings, municipal charters and by-laws, conflict of interests, public records, the Open Meeting Law, and municipal finance. With 20 years of experience in real estate law, she specializes in counseling municipalities in acquisitions and sales, eminent domain, chapter lands, conservation easements/restrictions and condominiums. Attorney Klein’s experience includes drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, deeds, leases, licenses, conservation and preservation restrictions, land development agreements, loan documents, and affordable housing instruments. She also advises on easements, restrictions and covenants, zoning and subdivision issues, and roadways
Prior to joining the firm, Attorney Klein practiced with several law firms in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She practiced for fifteen years with Bragdon, Berkson and Klein, P.C., in Keene, New Hampshire, where she was a principal focusing on real estate, land use and municipal law. Attorney Klein has represented developers in significant commercial transactions, entities and individuals in complex real estate acquisition and sale matters and zoning and land use disputes, lenders and borrowers in loan transactions and municipalities in zoning enforcement actions. She has written extensively at the appellate level, including briefs to the New Hampshire Supreme Court and First Circuit Court of Appeals.
Representative Matters
- Represented Groton Housing Authority in the acquisition of 9 affordable housing rental units, financed by the Massachusetts Partnership Fund Board and the Department of Housing and Community Development.
- Represented the Town of Winchendon in the acquisition of two parcels of Chapter 61 land, comprising approximately 70 acres, including negotiation of a Conservation Preservation Agreement with the Department of Fish and Game.
- Represented the City of Leominster in the acquisition of approximately 300 acres of water supply protection and conservation land in coordination with The Trust for Public Land.
