Experience

Attorney Mary L. Giorgio specializes in land use law, including enforcement, permitting issues and by-law drafting and review. She represents municipal Zoning and Planning Boards, Conservation Commissions and Boards of Health concerning violations of their respective by-laws and/or regulations and also represents these boards in district, superior or land court or before state administrative agencies in cases where their permitting decisions have been challenged.

Attorney Giorgio is a former City Planner in the Washington, D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area involved primarily with land use planning for Metro stations during the development and construction of the Metrorail system for that region. She was also an Alfred P. Sloan Urban Fellow in the New York City Mayor’s office and has served as a member and chairman of her town’s Planning Board.

Representative Matters

  • Assisting Health Agents, Building Inspectors, and Boards of Selectmen in conducting condemnation proceedings involving occupied and unoccupied nuisance structures, including securing and/or removing such structures.
  • Defending numerous zoning board decisions concerning the denial or grant of special permits or variances in state courts.
  • Assisting Building Inspectors, Health Agents, Boards of Health, Conservation Agents, and Conservation Commissions in their efforts to enforce by-laws and regulations within the scope of their authority.
